Where the Violets Bloom
“Where the Violets Bloom” is a daring and tender dance-theatre work by director Rush Johnston that redefines queer identity and community in response to harsh media portrayals. This piece subverts negative stereotypes of queerness and instead celebrates its beauty and the freedom to be oneself. A love letter to the LGBTQ+ community, “Where the Violets Bloom” combines poetry, choreography, scored improvisation, and a compelling musical score to illuminate the joy and resilience within queer experiences. The performance follows the journeys of queer-identified dancers as they navigate transitioning, coming out, and self-exploration, finding hope and radiance where the violets bloom.
Please note: The performance includes mentions of violence against queer people and in-audience interaction (without physical contact). For questions regarding content, contact kaleiddancecollective@gmail.com.
