What I Wore to Work
Queer burlesque queen, activist and and fashion historian Jo Weldon explores the intersection of fashion and adult entertainment work in the World premiere of WHAT I WORE TO WORK, An Illustrated Memoir of Dressing to Undress. Find out what Jo learned when she followed the stilettoed footsteps of her fellow strippers, escorts, streetwalkers, and dominatrices. Jo’s histories of her “work clothes” — and the vivid and insightful dressing room conversations she shared with her peers about the why of what they wore — explore not only her own life in the adult entertainment industry, but the lineage of the items themselves, and their influence on the larger world (including the likes of Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, Alexander McQueen, and Vivienne Westwood). Part illustrated lecture, part memoir, this entertaining and revealing new show uncovers how adult entertainers are at the root of fashion itself.
