Trepidation: Seven Films That Will Make You Tremble

NEW YORK — October 31, 2022 — Following a weekend of Halloween festivities, events and themed-cinematic screenings throughout New York City, the Queens World Film Festival (QWFF) is thrilled to present its Trepidation short film lineup (“Seven Films That Will Make You Tremble”) on Saturday, November 5th, from at 9:15 pm-11:15 pm, at the historic Kaufman Astoria Studios.

Celebrating its 12th Anniversary, the Queens World Film Festival runs in person for 6 days in 5 venues from November 1-6, 2022 and virtually on FilmFestivalFlix.com November 20-December 4. This year’s festival presents 157 films from 27 nations in six days at five venues throughout the borough of Queens. QWFF showcases 35 combinations of thematically programmed short films and features that explore similar themes followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers to create a memorable cinematic experience for moviegoers in New York City. The Trepidation lineup, in particular, offers seven short films from local filmmakers, cast and crew that includes:

• 3:33 A.M.

“We proudly present signature programming that pairs together films with similar thematic elements in what we call blocks,” said Donald Preston Cato, Artistic Director, Queens World Film Festival. “Our Trepidation block is dedicated to short films that explore the dread of not knowing and a feeling of fear or agitation about something that may happen.”

Committed to nurturing local talent, QWFF was named as one of the “20 Great Film Festivals for First-Time Filmmakers” by Moviemaker Magazine earlier this year. The Trepidation short film lineup includes 3:33 A.M by first-time filmmaker and Woodside, Queens resident Matt Marin. 

“I’m really excited to share the world premier of my short film inspired by folklore, just a few days after Halloween,” Marin said. “3:33 A.M. shows an unexpected confrontation between a young family during the witching hour, leading to a series of surprising, disturbing and chilling events.” Cato added, “This supernatural thriller hits many of the right notes for the horror genre. The combination of saturated colors and mysterious sounds are especially effective.”

About Queens World Film Festival

Founded in 2010 and nurtured into existence by Queens residents/filmmakers Donald Preston and Katha Cato, Queens World became a 501c3 non-profit in 2014. In 2019, the live festival, multiple Encore Screenings, and media events served over 11,000 participants with 65% of those coming from outside the Borough of Queens.

The 10th Annual Queens World was set to open on March 19, 2020, when the city was closed down and the festival became the first in the world to move online in response to COVID 19. Queens World ran March 19 – 29 on DiscoveredTV.com with 191 films from 31 nations and with 30,000 views we brought the world together in the first days of the pandemic. In May of 2020, Queens World launched Wednesday Nights @9  a weekly live broadcast that raised awareness and volunteers for 20 non-profit organizations.

In early 2021, Queens World was included in MovieMakerMagazine’s Top 50 Film Festivals Worth the Price of Submission. In June the 11th Annual Queens World Film Festival featured 198 films from around the world and around the corner. All the films ran on our streaming partner FilmFestivalFlix.com and 142 films were presented by BRG live at Queens Theatre in the Park, The Local, The Sherpa Association, Culture Lab, and The Museum of the Moving Image.

The festival was dedicated to all 5,977 staff members of Elmhurst Hospital Center for their tireless dedication to serving the health needs of Queens. The festival programmed free screenings for the staff and provided all of them with an all-festival pass for the virtual screenings.
