NEW YORK, NY (Sept. 1, 2022)  –  No one can deny that the world has changed in the past two years. Small businesses are still struggling for a comeback from the pandemic while the virus exposed the devastating and tragic health disparities in NYC, where people of color died at 2 or 3x the rate of those more fortunate – largely because they do not have affordable, nearby access to healthy food. 

Seeds in the Middle and Tastes of Brooklyn are thrilled to announce that food and drink establishments in Williamsburg, one of NYC’s trendiest, most creative, diverse  neighborhoods, are stepping up to empower all to overcome food deserts! Please promote them all as they support us! 

Tastes of Brooklyn food and drink crawls highlight different neighborhoods. 

Due to popular demand, we move to Williamsburg for the first time, our sixth food festival in this diverse, culturally-rich neighborhood, featuring more than 20 restaurants, bars, bakeries with more still coming in. 

We are happy to partner and support the local BIDs, Grand Street Bid and Graham Avenue Bid. 

Let’s bring our neighborhoods back while supporting Seeds in the Middle, an organization that has worked for 12 years to empower students, schools and their communities to create affordable access to farm fresh food, overcome food insecurity and health and educational inequities and influence healthier eating habits for kids. 

Empower food justice while eating and drinking all day! This school year, Seeds in the Middle hopes to raise funds to enable more than 15 schools in Brooklyn’s lowest-income neighborhoods – including PS 18, PS 147 and the Brooklyn Arbor School in Williamsburg – to create their own farm stands, farm to table cafes and gardens and cook fresh to empower the children to create healthy places to live and learn, plus make money! Ask about our Healthy Food Day of Action March to City Hall, our Chef Nights in schools, or Seeds in the Middle’s Community Action for Equity (CAFE) advisory panel – featuring local community leaders advocating for changes in funding to overcome food and health inequities.

WHY: Support small businesses and promote fresh food for all. Proceeds go to Seeds in the Middle, a 501c3 charity creating sustainable farm stands, school-run healthy programs and projects to raise achievement and the quality of health in Brooklyn’s food deserts, plus a share for the participating establishments. We’re seeking to expand farm stands to up to 18 schools in low-income neighborhoods hit hardest by COVID-19.
