Jack’s Bean Stalked: A Raunchy Holiday Panto
The classic tale of Jack and his magical beanstalk gets an unapologetically filthy and outrageously queer twist in “Jack’s Bean Stalked” – an adult, British-style Panto presented by R & R Productions. With echoes of the unsettling obsession in “Baby Reindeer” and the seductive edge of “Saltburn,” this outrageous re-imagining follows Jack and a razor-sharp drag queen as they face off against a giant (and a very hands-on) beanstalk that’s more stalker than stalk. This adults-only show plays five performances from November 23 – December 14 at the Lower East Side’s Parkside Lounge, 317 E. Houston, NYC 10002.
With biting political satire, raunchy humor, and pop culture parodies aplenty, this original Panto pushes boundaries and buttons in equal measure. Bold and bawdy, the pantomime, or Panto, has been a holiday tradition in Great Britain since 1717. With roots in Commedia dell’arte, the genre takes classic fairy tales and imbues them with a broad and comedic twist. While Pantos are traditionally considered family-friendly entertainment, “Jack’s Bean Stalked” is strictly for grown-ups.
