HFFNY TURNS 25: NYC’S LONGEST-RUNNING LATINO FILM FESTIVAL CELEBRATES A MILESTONE – APRIL 3-10, 2025
The Havana Film Festival New York (HFFNY), the city’s oldest Latino film festival, marks its 25th anniversary with a stellar lineup of 35+ award-winning films from Latin America, Spain, and the Latino diaspora. The festival runs April 3-10, 2025, featuring premieres, filmmaker Q&As, panels, and special events.
Opening Night – April 3 at DGA Theater: The NY premiere of Fenómenos Naturales, the debut feature by Cuban filmmaker Marcos Diaz Sosa, with actor Reinier Diaz in attendance. A red carpet event kicks off the celebration, followed by a special 25th-anniversary fiesta at Copacabana.
Closing Night – April 10: The NY premiere of Malecón by Carlos Larrazabal, who will engage in a dialogue with the audience.
Special Programs:
- Tribute to Jorge Luis Sánchez, honoring the late Afro-Cuban filmmaker (Buscando a Casal screening – April 4).
- Sur-Real: Fantasy & Vision in Ibero-American Cinema (April 5), a program on surrealism featuring classics and contemporary gems.
- Honoring Latin Rhythms on Screen (part of Carnegie Hall’s Nuestros Sonidos Festival), exploring Latin music from son to reggaeton.
“This milestone reflects our dedication to fostering cultural dialogue and showcasing the richness of Latin American cinema,” said Carole Rosenberg, AFLFC President.
“Through film, we celebrate the diversity, resilience, and creativity of our communities,” added Diana Vargas, HFFNY Artistic Director.

- Surrealismo Iberoamericano, muestra dedicada a explorar la fusión entre realidad, fantasía y política en el cine de Iberoamérica
- Ritmos Latinos en la Pantalla, con películas sobre son, cumbia, reguetón y otros géneros musicales, en colaboración con Nuestros Sonidos Festival de Carnegie Hall.
