Broadway’s Next Hit Musical
Returns to 54 Below by Very Popular Demand on Friday, October 14
After two sold-out performances, Broadway’s Next Hit Musical, will return to the acclaimed 54 Below stage with their brilliant, improvised Phony Awards. It’s The Tony Awards meets “Whose Line Is It Anyway,” an amazing night of improvised music and interactive comedy. On the evening of Friday, October 14 at 9:30pm, four fearless improvisers, one irreverent emcee and a marvelous music director will once again take the stage to create a brand-new musical, live and spontaneous – with the help of an audience who provides made-up song titles. (Past gems have included “The Electric Unicorn Fire Breathing Experience,” “I Hung My Life Up in the Coatroom,” and “Hiccup Buttercup.”) BNHM will also perform at 54 Below on Wednesday, November 16 and Sunday, January 15.
The first half of the show is the glamorous Phony Awards during which the performers draw titles from a bowl and magically turn them into improvised songs, simultaneously created on piano by Gary Adler, Musical Director of Broadway shows such as Avenue Q, Nunsense, and Next to Normal. The audience votes for their favorite and that song becomes the basis of Act Two, a full-blown musical, with astonishing rhymes, melodies, characters, dialogue, plot, and even costumes.
