All Street NYC is pleased to present the first retrospective exhibition of Billie J. Allen’s (b. 1977) prolific artistic practice, which spans over 25 and includes over 400 original works. Born and raised in St. Louis, MO, Allen is a self-taught artist who has been detained on federal death row for over twenty-five years for a crime he did not commit. All of the artworks currently on view have been created from inside a United States Penitentiary in Terre Haute, IN, where Allen lives and works. From this facility, Allen corresponded with the gallery over email, paper mail, and telephone to curate, design, and promote the exhibition. In preparation for the exhibition, Allen sent detailed drawings and descriptions of the exhibition’s layout.

Notably, Allen’s mixed media portraits of Emmett Till have been requested by the Till family to tell Till’s story, and will be on display at the exhibition.

The exhibition will be on view from December 5th – 9th, with a reception on Thursday, December 8th, from 7:00 – 10:00 pm, at All Street NYC, 77 East Third Street, New York, NY, 10003.

The event is free and tickets are not required.
